Chennai Superstars secured a 2 wicket victory over the Hyderabad Heroes in the 2nd Match of the ongoing ICL 50’s being played at Mayajaal largely thanks to Man of the Match Hemang Badani (88*). Chennai won the toss and elected to field in a high scoring game that went down to the last over.
Batting first, Hyderabad Heroes put on 263 in their stipulated 50 overs thanks to a fine hundred by Ambati Raydu (103). Raydu came in the 4th over with the score on 7. He along with Heroes skipper Anirudh Singh (77) put on a partnership of 161 for the 3rd Wicket. Hyderabad started slowly but once Raydu and Singh got their eye in the runs started flowing.
Then a couple of quick wickets made it seem that Hyderabad would struggle to reach 250 but a late flourish by their lower middle order ensured they reached a respectable total. That stand out performer for the Superstars was G. Vignesh (3/40) who continued his fine bowling.
Chasing the target, Chennai Superstars got off to a decent start losing their first wicket at 37. That brought in S. Sriram who along with opener Hemant Kumar put on 79 for the third wicket. Kumar was in fine form as he struck a run a ball 64. The Superstars then lost 3 wickets with score on 116. This flurry of wickets brought in Hemang Badani who seized control of the game by stringing together two 50 plus run partnerships. First was a 59 run stand with Vasanth Sarvanan for the 5th wicket. And then he put on one more with P.Vivek of 51 runs for the 7th wicket. Two more wickets fell but Badani did not panic and made sure his team reached the target. Hemang Badani was not out on 88 of 83 balls as Thiru Kumaran hit the winning runs for Chennai in the first ball of the 50th over.
This was much required win for the Chennai Superstars who had lost the opening match of the tournament to the Chandigarh Lions yesterday.
