Mumbai Champs beat Kolkata Tigers by 54 runs to win their two games on the trot in the ICL 50s. In the game being played at the Mayajaal Sports Village, Mumbai Champs skipper Kiran Powar won the toss and decided to bat on a batsmen friendly pitch. Batting first Champs were bowled out for 257 in 45.1 overs. Once again openers Robin Morris and Dheeraj Jadhav provided a great start to the Champs. They forged 67 runs partnership in11.4 overs. Morris scored quick fire 33 runs in 35 ball hitting 4 boundaries. That brought in AA Sanklecha who smashed 17 ball 22 that included 2 sixes and 1 boundary. Continuing his good form Dheeraj Jadhav struck a fine 73 balls 59 that included 4 boundaries to get the innings going for the Champs. After the quick of two wickets fall of Khanolkar and Dheeraj Jadhav, Mumbai Champs Captain Powar forged a 96 runs partnership with Nikhil Mandale to take the score past 145. Powar played a true captain's knock to score a belligerent 57 balls 60 that included 2 huge sixes and 4 boundaries. Once the Powar got out, the Mumbai batsmen failed to capitalise on the situation and lost wickets at regular intervals. None of the Champs batsman could put together a substantial partnership. They were bowled out for 257 in 45.1 overs. The Tigers bowling effort was a much more disciplined, than their previous matches. The star performers for Kolkata Tigers with the ball were Abhishek Jhunjhunwala 3/42 and Eklak Ahmid 2/34. Fast bowler Sujoy Tarafdar chipped in with important wicket of opener Robin Morris.
In their reply, the Kolkata Tigers batsman faltered badly as they were skittled out for a meager 203 in 40.4 overs. Kolkata never managed to get going and were set back by some inspiring bowling from Mumbai Champs bowlers. The Tigers were reeling at 95 for 4 in the 21st over and never managed to recover from that position. The chief architect of the Tigers collapse was Champs bowlers Shridhar Iyer and Shreyas Khanolkar who picked up four wicket each at regular intervals. The only spark in the Tigers innings came from Subhomoy Das and Shibsagar Singh , who scored 38 and 32 respectively.
